RECORD TURNOVER: SEE NO EVIL
Singer Tom Serner takes centre stage here, and it’s easy to make comparisons to Ariel Pink or Of Montreal, of course. But for a Swedish group, Ruby Empress is unique in the way that they’re not looking to copy someone – coming across rather like the musical chameleons of yore, most notably the master of reinvention Momus.

Never have so many, sold their soul, for so little. ‘See No Evil’ is about a guy who knows he’s wrecking himself and others. But he’s fine with that as long as his picture looks great and gets attention. We all do it. I don’t know where it ends. I re-read Oscar Wilde’s only novel, ‘The Portrait Of Dorian Gray’, and that’s where we are, right? We pretend we don’t see the scars, and we trade them for trash, for numbers”

"Following the success of their gone-viral single “Deluca” in 2016 and the debut EP “Empressionism” last year, the twenty-something Gothenburgians are well set to continue their musical journey. “Mind Games Sessions” is the name of their most recent endeavour: it is more than your traditional EP release, but rather an adventurous audiovisual experiment undertaken together with a bunch of creative collaborators. Indieberlin: You released an EP in the spring. Tell us more about that.
"That was our first “session” project. We consider it more as a side-project and the concept is a soundtrack for a character named Jane that we based on real-life Andrea Feldman [1960’s actress and Andy Warhol’s muse]. It was the first time we did a concept project based on a person and we’ll do more of those sessions. this next album will be a mix between the first and second EP. A little bit more symphonic and with big soundscapes."
